Research, be it in the field of history, anthropology, sociology, languages or arts, is a meticulous work, which demands respect for the interviewees and their stories. Regarding research with written or visual sources, the knowledge of how to work in archives and discernment of what is trustable or not among the information absorbed, are crucial. Because research aims reconstitution and the assembling of basic material which originate a documentary or fiction film, a book, or an exhibition.

Research methodology follows this order: investigation with secondary sources: written – newspapers, magazines, journals, theses, books – for preliminary knowledge of the theme to be developed. Following we enter a phase of deepening in the theme, with research with primary sources: written – archive documents, unedited documents; visuals – photographs, films, visual arts works; and oral – interviews already existing or made by Bula, with people who have lived during the period of interest or have had similar experiences to those approached by the project.

Texts and still images are reproduced, and interviews are recorded in video or audio and made available for consultation during the project. The researcher can also licence archive footage and images and negotiate their rights with their owners.

The primary sources, if they were produced by the character to be portrayed in the project, can, not only serve as reference for the final product, as they can be used in the form of high resolution image in the project.

Archive footage and images are also used frequently in documentaries and period dramas to obtain veracity.

To have, previously, a stylistic reference of the final product, especially in the case of a film, the so called "monster" is assembles. It is the editing of archive and other existing films material to define the look of the new project. This version is usually shown to sponsors and clients and it can be done by the researcher, together with the assistant director.

The reference research is the editing of films, photographs, visual arts works and even texts which are a base for the creation of art directors, photographers and fashion stylists. This work is a search for trends, a work that mixes the intellectual with the sensorial.

The editing work is a very important part of the researcher's work, who absorbs information in large quantities and passes along only what is pertinent for who receives the material: directors, producers, editors, who have little or no time to research.

• Content creation

It originates from research. It is, actually, the creative work.

This work can be: script development, writing stories and illustration for books, concept development for films, books collections and special projects. The content creation made by Bula always is always based on preliminary research, to know what has been done before within the same theme, so that the result is original, or aware.

If the aim is artistic creation, Bula knows there are no limits, that sensibility is free and needs the maximum resources possible.

If the aim is the creation or rethinking the image of a company, Bula coordinates this process, with a deep study of the characteristics and profile of the company. Bula makes market research, writes all the texts, for sites, folders and labels, and advices in the hiring of graphic artists and web designers.

• Script development

The profession of developer is very recent. It is a service made together with the film director. Usually, the director or producer creates and argument or writes a script, or asks the scriptwriter to develop it. The developer follows the whole process of script developing, making brain-storms, revising the text and analysing the structure. The developer helps pointing-out the flaws in structure and text spelling, clichés and rhythm problems. We help on the setting of a dynamic script structure which maintains the spectator's attention during the whole film. Besides, the devolper brings references from other films in terms of narrative and language so that the director and producer define better what they want to create.

The script doctoring is also part of the script developing. It is the evaluation of an already written script and the highlighting of strong and weak points, with the inclusion of references of other films so that the script acquires dynamics and credibility.

Bula writes institutional scripts for production companies, advertising agencies and companies that wish to make the marketing of their products in video, or simply, an internal presentation. The institutional video, to avoid being monotonous needs to have a preliminary study of the product, through a research, which is the specialty of Bula. The concept must be original and the narration shall be the most creative and with the most quality possible.
